Bowen’s works sonar drawing device, phototropic drawing device and tele-present water are currently featured in a group exhibition titled Open Space at Intercommunication Center, Tokyo.

In conjunction with this exhibition, Bowen presented a robotics workshop at ICC and lectures at both ICC and Tokyo University of the Arts in January 2012.

Bowen’s works growth rendering device and tele-present water are currently included in a group exhibition titled Curious Minds: New Approaches in Design at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem.

Eun-Kyung Suh, an Associate Professor in Art+Design at UMD was invited to have a solo exhibition, “Discarded Memory” at the Gallery 249 in Dayton OH. She will also offer workshop, “Printing imagery on textile” at the University of Dayton on Feb 22nd.

The opening reception is scheduled on Feb 23rd from 5pm to 7pm and artist talk will start at 6pm

Eun-Kyung Suh’s textile work was invited to Affordable Art Fair in Los Angeles from Jan 18-22 2012, represented by Conrad Wilde Gallery. Approximately 40 art galleries from USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Russia (and etc) participated in the art fair.

A&D 2012 Student Exhibition Call for Entries

We invite you to enter UMD Art & Design’s 2012 Annual Student Exhibition. This year we have two excellent jurors, Bud Rodecker for Design and Scott Stulen for Studio, and the initial submission and jurying will be online February 27 – March 2 via digital entry form, photos, and movies. As always it’s an excellent chance to show off your best graphic design and studio art work while competing for thousands of dollars in awards.

Open to all students who have had an art or design class Spring or Fall 2011, or Spring 2012, regardless of major.

Joellyn Rock’s artwork is exhibited in conjunction with NCECA 2012 in
Seattle this spring. The exhibit was curated by Deborah Paine and
Esther Luttikhuizen. It includes ceramic works from the Seattle and
King County portable works collections by artists Michael Lucero, Akio
Takamori, Robert Sperry, Kinu Watanabe, Julie Lindell, Ellie Fernald,
Margared Ford, Howard Kottler, Robert Milnes, Patti Warashina, Joyce
Moty, Gerald Newcomb, Gloria Dearcangelis, Ann Gardner, Deborah
Horrell, Debra Sherwood, Patrick Siler, Robert Fornell, Richard
Notkin, Glenda Scott, Joellyn Rock, Charles Krafft…and others.
“Enduring Clay” is on view in the Washington State Convention and
Trade Center, 2nd floor, North Gallery, 800 Convention Place. Gallery
hours are 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., daily. The show runs through April 9,
2012.

ALVERN (Andy Lindberg) brings a new sculpture to the gallery of Ochre Ghost. Working with found electronics, incandescent lights, arduino, and projection; the piece has an intelligence that explores & reflects on the broadcast of life itself.
